Changing your user profile or password

I forgot my username and/or password.

How do I change my password?
You can change your password at any time. Follow the instructions for updating your registration information and a new numerical password will be emailed to you.

My contact information has changed. Can I update my profile or should I re-register?
You can modify your registration information at any time. After the initial registration process is completed, whenever you log in to PERC and view the "MY PERC" page, an option to "Edit My Profile" appears. If you click this option, you will be taken to a page where you can change the data in any field of your profile.  If you have posted materials on PERC, you can also change the contents of your submission form(s) by editing the material through your "My PERC" page.  Please do not re-register if you have an existing membership. IMPORTANT: Your published materials are tied to your membership; if your membership is deleted, so will your contributions to PERC.

Searching

How do I find what I'm looking for in PERC?
There are three options for locating materials from the PERC home page: Browse, Search and Quick Link:

The Browse feature appears not only on the home page but also in the header of every page on the PERC Web site. Browsing gives you the ability to view all the categories and subcategories available in PERC, with the number of available materials posted after each. Browsing takes you to an expandable and collapsible tree, which includes the CPPH Curriculum Framework, the Undergraduate Frameworks, the disciplines represented, and the types of materials posted.

Search offers you the ability to type in single or multiple search terms, and will  search keywords entered by authors. It will display a list of all materials matching your search terms.

Quick Link enables you to jump directly to a section of the framework or hot topic to expedite your search.

Adding User comments and ratings

Once a material is submitted and published on PERC, it is subject to publicly viewed ratings and comments submitted by registered PERC users. Users can assign a rating of 1-5 stars, and can post comments about the material, with the option of including their username on the comment.  If you have a concern about a posted comment, please contact us. Comments are frequently reviewed by PERC staff and inappropriate comments will be deleted.

Contributing materials to PERC

How do I submit materials for publication in PERC?
To submit items to PERC you must first register with PERC. Then click on the “SUBMIT” tab at the top of the page to proceed to the Author Instructions.  To access the Submission Form, click on "Continue" at the bottom of the author instructions. The information you provide about each material you submit includes details like authors(s), applicable Framework component, keywords, applicable discipline(s), type of material, usage rights, and a brief description of the item. Please note that you must be the copyright holder or authorized by the copyright holder to make a submission. You will be asked to accept the terms of a Submission Agreement before submitting your material.

What is the review process?
All materials will be screened to ensure that the correct file or link was provided, that copyright issues have been addressed, and that content seems generally appropriate for health professions and/or public health education. In addition, the submission form will be reviewed to ensure proper categorizing and keyword selections. The PERC Director and/or Editor will determine whether a submission is accepted or rejected. Some submissions may be accepted pending modification.

Copyright issues

May I post a material if I’m not certain that I own the copyright for it?
You do not have to have a written copyright, but you should only claim authorship of materials that you are certain you created. If you collaborated with others on the development of a teaching material, seek their permission to post the material, and be sure to include them as additional authors on the Submission Form.

For general information about copyrights in the United States, please read "Copyright Basics" from the United States Copyright Office at
http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.html

If you are interested in a web-based system for registering a copyright for your work and/or obtaining permissions to use copyrighted work in your materials, please visit the non-profit Copyright Clearance Center at www.Copyright.com.

Can I post materials that have images that I obtained from a web site or unknown source?
You may be the author of a material that contains embedded images or content from other sources. You must ensure that permission is granted and you attribute the embedded content to the original source. If you are unsure of the source of images, you may wish to replace them with similar, unrestricted clip-art, or delete the image from your submission. If images are crucial to your resource, consider purchasing low-cost, royalty-free images from stock image companies such as Dreamstime.com ($1 each), Gettyimages.com and Corbis.com (there are hundreds of options on the Web). Free-use images are also available from CDC’s Public Health Image Library: http://phil.cdc.gov/phil/home.asp, but remember, even free images require attribution.
